Using Essentail Oils In A Bath

A nice way to use essential oils is in a bath. As well as being very relaxing, they can be useful for treating systemic problems, such as high blood pressure or hot flushes.

Generally, people just add the oils directly into a running bath, but following the simple procedure below can really increase the effects.

Firstly, the oils should be mixed with an emulsifying agent, such as milk, lecithin or egg white. This enables the oils to mix more easily with the water. Add around 15-20 drops of the oil or oil blend to a tablespoon of emulsifying agent.

Run a nice hot bath, as warm as is comfortable, and add up to three cups of sea salt, or good quality bath salts. The salt should be pure and not contain any additives, such as anti-caking agents – check the packet for the ingredients list. The ordinary salt that is used for  cooking is fine, but you can also buy sea salts specifically for using in baths. Sea salt is a good detoxifier and helps to soften the skin. Soak in the bath for 5 minutes or so. Then add the emulsified oil blend. You can also add more hot water at this point if the bath has started to cool. Then just lie back and relax for 20 minutes and let the oils do their work.

Enjoy!

Aromatherapy oils have a lot of advantages and can aid in the prevention or healing of several complaints. Each and every individual is different. Some important oils can be toxic. Some oils must never be ingested while others require limited exposure to the sun due to phototoxicity. Read the label and ask your supplier if you’re in doubt of the safest use for any particular oil. Not just the one in this article.
