Practitioner Profile

How and Why I Practice Acupuncture

I originally trained to become a psychologist, but during these studies I realised that I was more drawn to Eastern philosophies and holism.

This lead me to begin training in Martial Arts and energy work. I studied Qigong (Chi Gung) with Sifu Shi Yanzi at the Shaolin Temple, becoming experienced in using Ba Duan Jin (Eight Pieces of Brocade) and Shoalin Nei Gong (Internal Energy Work) for improving and maintaining health.

I then trained in acupuncture at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture.

I am influenced by the ‘Classical Acupuncture’ styles of Jeffrey Yuen, which utilise all the acupuncture meridians, as well as other treatment modalities such as essential oils.
I am particularly interested in using acupuncture to improve the performance of sports men and women. Studies have suggested that acupuncture may improve recovery time from injuries, as well as that acupuncture may improve endurance, could enhance muscle efficiency and strength, and may increase oxygen uptake.

My psychology background has also given me an interest in using acupuncture with those suffering mental-emotional conditions, such as stress, depression and insomnia. This is an area where Chinese Medicine and acupuncture is currently under-used in the UK.
